Calgary has a massive network of cycling trails. I live near the west end of Fish Creek Provincial Park - one of Canada's largest urban parks. I also live close to the Glenmore Reservoir, giving me a perfect ~30 kilometer loop option that is a nice 1-hour workout ride from my house. I am still exploring the huge number of rides available to me, all leaving my front door in the community of Woodbine in the SW.
One of my "go-to" rides for getting 60+ kilometers in the city without venturing onto any high traffic roads. There are some high traffic areas that require caution but nothing too dramatic.
A classic paved loop which I access from Woodbine in the SW but can be done from pretty much anywhere in Calgary. This is a very busy footpath and caution is required at peak usage times. Radar is also frequently used in North Glenmore Park to slow cyclists down and / or hand out tickets so be aware of this.
The Western Headworks Canal carries irrigation water to over 400 farms and municipal water to four communities through a gravity system that began in 1904 with a diversion weir on the Bow River. The bike path alongside it offers 28 km of dedicated car-free cycling from Calgary to Chestermere, with the last 9 km outside city limits.
