The Okanagan Valley offers some of the best cycling terrain in Canada, with road cyclists flocking to the region to traverse its picturesque mountain passes and pristine lakeside settings.
Areas like Kelowna and Penticton are familiar to experienced endurance riders, as well-known events like Ironman Canada pass through the valley. The terrain ranges from flat lakeside roads to punishing mountain climbs, with plenty of rolling vineyard country in between. The quieter, European-feeling roads on Kelowna's east side offer nearly 2,000 m of climbing without leaving city limits.
There are nicer road rides near Vernon than this one. I enjoyed the early morning vibes but the rough pavement along Otter Lake Cross Road and the zero shoulder situation along Otter Lake Road were enough to make this a "one and done" ride for me.
