Tuesday July 8 our group of four summitted Resplendent
Mtn. Myself and Raff (Team Calgary) and Melissa Weber
and David Wilson (Team Hobart) reached the summit of
Resplendent with great snow conditions, but lousy
weather. We ascended the standard North West slopes
route from the Robson Cirque.

The hike to the bivy site below Extinguisher Tower is a
hump, but a fantastic location. July 8 the temperature at
4:00 am (2000 m) was about +2, but the snow conditions
on the lower Robson Glacier were good. The lower section
of the Robson Glacier beside the ET was bare ice, but
quickly turned to snow cover. The depth of snow on the
lower glacier was about 60 cm to 1 metre (2150 to 2500
m) with about ankle foot pen on the way up. Above the
last steep glacier headwall (2800 m?) the snow depth was
deep, maybe 2 metres? Foot pen was at the most around
boot top; on the way up.

Our ascent from about 3100 metres up was in a complete
whiteout with very high winds and blowing snow. We only
made the summit and descended safely because of Raff's
keen GPS skills. No views of Robson, or anything else ;-)
but we decided the long hike was worth finishing the final
300m in a whiteout.

Cloudy skies and cool temps (and new powder snow) kept
the snow in pretty good shape for the descent. Foot pen
was just above boot top for a few sections on the way
down. Lots of holes on Robson, but we didn't have any

Return time from bivy around 9 hours. Despite the
whiteout summit and no view of Robson, we had an
awesome time.

Wow - congrats guys! Great trip and perseverance. Some scary holes on that glacier too.

Obviously you didn't go for Warren eh?!

Good job, Kev and Raff! Sounds like the conditions were good. And maybe you get better summit views from your next one...
