On Saturday, August 24 2013 I took my family for a hike to Taylor Lake in Banff National Park. I've been to the summit of Mount Bell and to Boom Lake a few times but never hiked to Taylor. I'd been warned that the hike is a bit boring but we found ourselves with a few hours and some energy and it was this or Bourgeau Lake. We let the boys vote and they used the stats to pick Taylor...
Mount Murchison has been tempting Raf and I ever since we first got a really good look at her summit from across highway 93 while sipping Starbucks on Mount Sarbach in 2009. Already in 2008 my appetite for this mountain was wet by Andrew Nugara's trip report of him and his brother's ascent.
[Update July 12 2013]
Many areas are now opening in Kananaskis thanks to an incredible effort by many. Many trails still remain closed, however. Please visit the Kananaskis Trails report page for updates.
After summiting Lion Peak, it was time to traverse over to Lioness for our second summit of the day. I'll admit, I was very skeptical that this summit deserved a "summit" rating but I wasn't going to argue about it since it is an officially named peak. After doing the traverse I don't have a problem with it anymore.
As part of our ascent of Numa Mountain, we chose a circular route which took us down from Numa Pass, past Floe Lake and back out to the trailhead. This trip report is for the Floe Lake / Numa Pass hike in case you're not a peakbagger but a hiker! :)
After hiking the Stanley Glacier trail (and beyond) the day before, in 28 degree temperatures, Niko (my son) voted for an easier day on Sunday, June 30 2013. I had narrowed our destination into two choices, either Arnica Lake or Boom Lake. It didn't take long for Niko to choose.
Sony announced the successor to the RX100 today. The impressively named "RX100 Mark II"... :) In case you didn't already know from my many glowing posts regarding this gem of a camera, if you're a climber, backpacker, hiker and / or skier you should buy this camera. Key aspects that are important for people traveling far with large loads;
On Sunday, June 16 2013 we celebrated Hanneke's birthday and Father's Day with a nice family hike around the Upper Kananaskis Lake. The best way to do this hike (IMHO) is from the Interlakes parking lot in a clockwise direction. This puts the 'boring' section from Interlakes to the Upper Lake parking lot behind you earlier in the day when you're still fresh.
